Dun & Bradstreet's view on data protection

Dun & Bradstreet's Data Guidelines

Every day, we manage large amounts of data. For us, it goes without saying that we treat all this information with the greatest respect. Data security and personal privacy are at least as important to us as they are to our clients. In our work, we therefore follow carefully outlined guidelines and check routines. We use reliable systems and naturally, we follow the laws, rules and regulations in force on all our markets.

Our responsibility is to ensure the security of the information in our care and to maintain the privacy of consumers through appropriate, responsible use. The collection, use, retention, safeguarding and disclosures of personal data is regulated in our General Privacy Information and internal Data Privacy Policy.

In case of data breaches
Sometimes unexpected things happen. To this end we have incident response plans in place. In the case of data breaches, which may entail risks to your privacy, both you and the Eidgenössischer Datenschutz- und Öffentlichkeitsbeauftragter are notified in accordance with our legal obligations. In this case, we will make every effort to stop this state of affairs as quickly as possible and to limit all the consequences.
Reducing risk through data minimization

No matter what business we are in, we are all suffering from data overload. We create too much, store too much and, most annoying of all, we cannot find a way to get rid of what we no longer need. Dun & Bradstreet regularly practice data minimization, which limits the collection and retention of information that is essential to our business operations. Data minimization refers to the practice of limiting the collection of personal information to that which is directly relevant and necessary to accomplish a specified purpose.

Handling credit information

We often interpret financial information for our clients. For security reasons, we have developed Dun & Bradstreet ID and Dun & Bradstreet Secure to give all our clients' users a personal login. This enables us to verify the identities of all persons handling credit information and minimize the risk of any unauthorized person gaining access to our clients' services and data. The combination of Dun & Bradstreet ID and Dun & Bradstreet Secure is called strong authentication and makes it easy for both our clients and for us at Dun & Bradstreet to always ensure we are handling data in a secure manner.
